In her keynote Jean will explore what we mean by closing the word gap and why it matters for attainment and broader life chances. She will discuss national policy developments in which she is involved, and the practical strategies schools can put in place to develop spoken language across the age range. Showcasing effective approaches in schools across the country, this keynote summarises research on what helps children and young people acquire good language skills and highlights the importance of three key factors: a place to talk, a reason to talk and support for talk.
Jean is also delivering a workshop in session 3 (
